Definition: An emergency sickness plan is available for international travelers visiting the U.S. While visiting the U.S. an international traveler’s health insurance may not cover them for sickness. An emergency sickness plan covers the traveler for medical expenses during the rental agreement due to sickness. It also covers a renter’s passengers with non-U.S. passports.
Examples:
Abram is visiting from Great Britain with his family. They rent a car and go hiking in the Smokey Mountains. After getting lost for most of the day on a hike, Abram and his sister both suffer severe dehydration. They are hospitalized for a short period of time. Their medical expenses will be paid by their emergency sickness plan purchased through their car rental agreement.
