What is an Insurance Endorsement?

Insurance is filled with all kinds of insurance lingo. An insurance endorsement refers to an insurance policy change usually requested by the named insured. A change of any kind is often referred to as an endorsement. Changes include vehicle changes, coverage changes, driver changes, loss payee changes, and other miscellaneous changes.

When can an insurance endorsement be made?

Most car insurance endorsements can be made at any time during a policy period. It is possible for some endorsements to only be allowed at policy renewal time. It is also possible for an endorsement to be delayed if you are late making your payment. Coverage endorsements can also be restricted if severe weather like a hurricane has been predicted in your area.

How often can I request an insurance endorsement?

Endorsements are not limited in quantity. Changes to insurance policies are made all the time and are even expected. An average policy holder probably makes some type of change every year. A lot of people make multiple changes every year.

How do you make an insurance endorsement?

Some insurance carriers allow you do process some of your own endorsements on their website. Otherwise you can call your insurance agent or customer service number. Always remember to look for verification of your change via declaration page in the mail or email.
